Vitamin K2 (K2VITAL®)
Vitamin K supplementation can help to support bone health for expecting mothers during a time in which their bodies go through substantial skeletal change either in preparation for giving birth or through loss of bone density during menopause.
Vitamin K refers to a group of fat-soluble vitamins that play a role in blood clotting, bone metabolism, and regulating blood calcium levels.
Since vitamin K is poorly transported from mother to baby and also the level of vitamin K in breast milk is typically very low, both new and expecting mothers can support their child’s development by supplementing with the vitamin during pregnancy and early infancy.
Babies are born with lower Vitamin K levels and will therefore be offered a vitamin K injection at birth to help prevent a very rare bleeding disorder called haemorrhagic disease of the newborn.
Your midwife should have discussed the injection with you while you were pregnant. If you'd prefer for your baby not to have an injection, they can have vitamin K by mouth instead.
Our DuoCap contrains K2VITAL® which is the purest and most biologically active vitamin K2 as menaquinone-7 (MK-7). This MK-7 is the natural form of vitamin K2 that can be properly absorbed and utilised by the body.
